The show in 3 sentences
I love shows like this. I’d heard of Chernobyl and read about it online before, but it always felt like one of those terrible things that happened to people somewhere far away. This show made it feel much more real.
Chernobyl is honestly scarier than most horror movies because the horror actually happened. Thousands of people lived through what happened in April 1986, and the consequences lasted for years afterward. There’s this constant sense of dread throughout the whole show that makes it pretty hard to watch at times, but also makes it a must-watch.
It’s also unfortunate that accidents like Chernobyl still haunt the way we think about nuclear energy and often get in the way of conversations about its potential. There are obviously a lot of lessons to take away about human error, secrecy, bad leadership, and institutional failure, but I also thought the show was a really interesting discussion starter about nuclear power itself.
