The Movie in 3 Sentences
- Eddington is set in May 2020 in the fictional town of Eddington, New Mexico, right as COVID restrictions, Black Lives Matter protests, conspiracy theories, and online outrage are all colliding. The main conflict starts between Sheriff Joe Cross and Mayor Ted Garcia: Joe resists mask rules and grows increasingly hostile toward Ted, eventually deciding to run against him for mayor. What started as a personal feud turns into a regional dispute; neighbors turn against neighbors, teenagers get pulled into protest culture and internet performance, conspiracy thinking spreads, and Joe’s sense of reality starts to fracture.
- It's a rare film that can make you laugh and feel like you need to sit quietly in a dark room afterward just to process what you watched.
- It said it’s a modern day Western movie, but it really is another horror movie. I was definitely laughing in the discomfort of seeing the reflection of ourselves somewhere in the swarm of blame, conspiracy, narcissism and social rage.
