What first looks like a UFO story gradually becomes something stranger, more predatory, and more connected to the business of spectacle itself.
I was confused most of the time. The story unfolds in a way that feels deliberately off — not a thriller nor horror film, which made it hard for me to know exactly what kind of movie I was watching. Calling it horror almost feels misleading: people who avoid horror might stay away unnecessarily, while people looking for something genuinely scary may come out disappointed.
In the end, Nope felt less like a horror movie and more like a strange mix of sci-fi, mystery, comedy, and social commentary—with, thankfully, no romance wedged in for no reason. I can appreciate that it is doing something different, but I’m not sure I was fully on its wavelength.
Maybe I had simply heard too many good things about Get Out and went in expecting Jordan Peele to blow me away again.
