The Show in 3 Sentences
Exactly what I needed at the time.
At first, Ted Lasso seemed like a goofy, lightweight comedy built around an absurd premise. Then a few episodes in, once I had completely lowered my guard, I realized the show was trying to do something much warmer and more sincere. Suddenly I was nearly in tears—the emotional equivalent of getting weirdly sentimental over a commercial when you’re sick, except this actually felt earned.
Ted’s optimism could have easily been annoying or naïve, but the show makes kindness feel like a genuine strength rather than a punchline. It arrived at exactly the right moment and somehow managed to be funny, comforting, and unexpectedly moving without becoming unbearably sentimental.
Easily one of the best new comedies I’d seen in a long time.
