Redesigning homepage to build trust with users

Redesigning MyFoodData's homepage to better communicate its value — building trust and driving signups by showcasing key features.

Project

After redesigning the dashboard and nutrition tools, we aimed to better communicate our value and boost signups. The new homepage focused on:

  • Clearly explaining MyFoodData’s benefits
  • Building trust in our data sources
  • Encouraging signups while highlighting features

Proposed design

New MyFoodData homepage — clear hero, grouped feature sections, and a trust-building data quality story
Old MyFoodData homepage — dense blocks of color, inconsistent styling, and unclear value propositions
BeforeAfter

UX writing

Challenge: The current copy didn’t clearly convey the website’s benefits to the target audience.

Solution: We grouped features into three key user-focused goals, presenting them with clear descriptions and illustrations. A consistent tone and uniform terminology help build trust and ensure all users easily understand MyFoodData’s value.

Sign up & login rationalization

Challenge: The current design required users to navigate multiple pages to sign up. A lack of visual consistency prevented users from quickly understanding the page layouts.

Solution: The signup process was combined into a single page and the flow reduced to a single step. The design system was applied throughout, helping train users on how to use the site from their first encounter.

Building trust

Challenge: Redundant content and unclear messaging weakened user trust and failed to emphasize the company’s commitment to data quality and transparency.

Solution: Applying the design system to the landing and about pages and simplifying messaging created a more professional feel. Clearer data quality details and a more approachable About Us page help build trust in the team and product.
